Right-of-way trees & sidewalk repairs

Trees beside streets & sidewalks

A tree between the street and sidewalk may be in a public road right-of-way. Report tree or limb concerns along county-maintained roads to St. Louis County Transportation and Public Works, and ask the county to confirm responsibility for the location.

Before arranging pruning or removal, confirm whether the tree is in the road right-of-way, on private property, or on HOA common ground.

For trees on HOA common ground, contact the HOA.

Cracked or uneven public sidewalks

The county can repair or temporarily patch minor sidewalk problems in the public right-of-way. Permanent repairs are scheduled as funding allows, with no direct cost to the property owner, according to the county guidebook.

Private-property sidewalks remain the property owner’s maintenance responsibility.
